Cold water from the mains is delivered to the base of the cylinder, the water is heated, then when a tap or shower is turned on the mains water pressure pushes the hot water out.
To allow the water that is heated in the cylinder to expand as it is heated, an expansion vessel is used and the system includes a pressure relief valve.
Because an Unvented Hot Water System provides hot water constantly at mains pressure, there is no requirement for a cold water storage tank in the loft and the extra pipework to link it up.
Therefore because you’re relying on the pressure from the mains rather than just gravity, you can situate the hot water cylinder almost any location. Also there will be no risk of frozen pipes in the cold loft in winter!!
